Footpaths and people with disabilities

Sir, – Frank McDonald writes "legal challenges threaten Dublin's ability to become pedestrian -and cycling-friendly" ("Major hurdle may now face cycleways", Opinion, August 12th).

That is rather interesting when you consider that our footpaths have become akin to obstacle courses, with the intrusion of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Although it will be seen as a welcome development that local authorities have reallocated pedestrian and road space, spare a thought for people with disabilities. They too should be catered for as part of outdoor-friendly planning, not just the cyclists. – Yours, etc,
