Sir, – You report that European Commission vice-president Maros Sefcovic is optimistic that a resolution can be found to the Northern Ireland protocol impasse in further discussions with the British government (“EU hopes ‘actions will follow’ softer tone from UK in NI Brexit dispute”, November 19th).
Maybe his optimism wears heavy boots, mine wears sensible slippers and I base that caution on the answer I get to a simple question.
If the British government is serious about reaching a fair and reasonable resolution, would they send David Frost to negotiate it?
