Sir, – Your letters page often reflects, and with some justification, discontent with, and criticism of our Government and its services.
However, I must share a recent very positive and uplifting experience to counteract this. Thanks to the generosity and compassion of friends and family we were able to bring into Ireland six Ukrainian refugees, two mothers and four children, just over a week ago. They had no problem coming through the airport. The children have been welcomed into local schools and offered language and other supports.
The local DSP office facilitated the issuing of PPS cards which entitles them to health and other services. The Post Office is fast tracking a current account facility.
All this in five working days! Who wouldn’t be proud to be Irish?
– Yours, etc,
MARY HANAHOE,
Booterstown, Co Dublin.
